Summer Maintenance Tips for Construction Equipment
Share
In the sweltering summer months, construction machinery is more prone to issues. So, as users and operators of this equipment, how can we maintain and care for it to reduce the likelihood of failures?
Cleaning the Cooling System Components
- To ensure the optimal performance of the cooling system in compact machinery, it is essential to thoroughly clean, tighten, and lubricate all parts of the cooling system. Aim to remove as much scale as possible from the cooling system, including the radiator, to enhance heat dissipation, maintain unobstructed cooling pathways, and accelerate the circulation of cooling water.
Inspecting the Water Pump-Fan Drive Belt
- After prolonged use, the drive belt can become fatigued and deformed, which diminishes its cooling effectiveness. When replacing the belt, it's important to select the correct type and length and to adjust its tension accurately.
Checking the Radiator Connection Hoses
- The radiator's hoses generally have poor oil resistance, making them susceptible to early damage, which can affect the water supply and cause the engine temperature to rise excessively. Inspect the hoses for any signs of cracking or leaking and address these issues promptly. It's also crucial to maintain an adequate level of coolant; top it up immediately if you find it low.
Ensuring Adequate Electrolyte Level in the Battery
- In the summer, high temperatures lead to increased evaporation rates, which can cause the electrolyte level to drop quickly. It's important to timely replenish with distilled water or electrolyte (taking care to ensure its purity) to maintain the level 10 to 15 mm above the top of the plates, preventing plate oxidation. Regularly clean the battery surface and remove any oxides from the terminals and wire connections. Ensure the vent holes are clear and clean, and that the battery is securely mounted. Promptly address any battery issues and adhere to scheduled maintenance and care routines.
Guidelines for Operators
- During the summer, operators of heavy machinery can easily become fatigued due to prolonged driving. When feeling tired, it is crucial for drivers to stop and rest appropriately, rather than pushing themselves to drive while overly fatigued. Ensuring sufficient sleep will help maintain good energy and physical strength, leading to higher work efficiency. Both operators and machinery must be regularly adjusted to ensure they are in optimal condition, allowing for a safe and productive summer season.
